Cornwall County Council (and Parish) elections this May

Elections for Cornwall Council and some town and parish councils, including Morval, will take place on Thursday, May 1, this year.

Residents are reminded that they must be registered to vote, and have a valid form of photo ID with them at the polling station.

Anyone who hasn’t already registered to vote, must do so by Friday, April 11, via the GOV.UK website (https://cornwall.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8b22106188babc3bc72a50b07&id=e7e6335e3b&e=3420d0621c) .

There are a number of ways to vote (https://cornwall.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8b22106188babc3bc72a50b07&id=f994609000&e=3420d0621c).

Options for residents who may not have photo ID include:

  • Proxy vote – send someone you trust to vote in your place;
  • Postal voting – cast your vote at home and return it in the post, and…
  • Applying for a Voter Authority Certificate – an alternative to photo ID

There are deadlines in place to apply for these voting options.

To find out more, please see the Cornwall Council elections web page (https://cornwall.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8b22106188babc3bc72a50b07&id=ac94d48788&e=3420d0621c) .

Residents who are already registered to vote do NOT need to apply again, unless their details have recently changed.

The elections will also involve Morval Parish Council with the Council’s ten seats all up for election.

Currently, members of the Parish Council are (in alphabetical order of surnames): John Collings, Jasmine Fullalove, Stuart Hutchins, Andy Jackson (chairman), Debbie Kirkland, John Kitson, Toni Patterson, Clive Pearn, Ben Pengelly and Graham Tamblyn.

Each of them must seek re-election in May if they want to continue to serve on the Parish Council.

If more than ten nominations for the ten Parish Council seats are received there will be a Parish Council election, as well as an election for a new Cornwall Council (Looe East and Deviock ward) to succeed Armand Toms who is standing down after years of stalwart service, including latterly as Morval’s County Councillor.
