Travel guru Simon Calder heads Duchy Tourism Summit’s top-table

VISIT Cornwall’s two-day ‘Tourism Summit’ next week, will bring together industry leaders, tourism professionals, and business owners to drive the future of the holiday sector.

Open to everyone, the ‘summit’ takes place at the Alverton Hotel in Truro on Wednesday and Thursday (January 15-16).

It is the first major event of its kind since 2020, and Visit Cornwall believes that it will provide a rare opportunity for anyone to learn from some of the most respected voices in the sector, as well as offering peer support from other tourism businesses in Cornwall.

Said Visit Cornwall chairman Jon Hyatt: “We look forward to gathering with tourism businesses to discuss key local issues facing the sector, and shaping the success of Cornwall’s visitor economy for this year and beyond.”

Speakers already lined up include Patricia Yates, chief executive officer of VisitBritain/VisitEngland, who will provide an update on the priorities of VisitBritain, and Kate Nicholls, chief executive officer of UK Hospitality.

Additional speakers include the Independent travel editor’s Simon Calder, renowned travel writer and broadcaster; the experienced Malcolm Bell, development lead for the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP); Andy Jasper, the newly appointed chief executive officer of the Eden Project, and Stuart Reid, CEO of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, who are the lead sponsors of the event.

Tickets, priced at £55 per person per day, are on sale via the Visit Truro ticket office. More information and a link to the booking page can be found on the Visit Cornwall website: www.visitcornwall.com/tourism-summit

Discounted rates are available for those with an active Visit Cornwall membership, and the ticket costs include refreshments throughout the day, as well as lunch.

This event has been part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and through the generosity of Visit Cornwall’s sponsors, including Great Western Railway.
