‘Meet the Police’ initiative for Widegates
A DEVON and Cornwall Police ‘surgery’ will be held at the Village Hall (Reading Room), Widegates, on Friday (February 16), from 6.00 pm until 7.00 pm.
Community Police Support Officer Dave Billing will be among those in attendance and will be happy to address any concerns that residents may have about policing and the like.
CPSO Billing was unable to attend the February meeting of the Parish Council but he sent a report detailing that one crime of vehicle theft in the parish was being investigated.
He also referred to the Community Speed Watch session in Widegates on January 26 that had been part of Devon and Cornwall Police’s ‘Week of Action’ when of the 63 vehicles recorded travelling through the village, from Morval towards Hessenford, 17 had speeds in excess of 30-mph with one travelling at 41-mph.
The registered keepers of the vehicles had been sent letters reminding them to observe speed limits at all times.“We would like to thank the 46 drivers that obeyed the speed limit,” he said
CPSO Billing hoped that further speed checks could be made during February and March while the main A387 Sandplace to Looe road was closed for highways work.
He also reported that a speed advisory sign had been situated on the (Liskeard side) approach to Trenode Church of England Primary school and would remain in place for about a month.
He said once data was received about vehicles speeds passing the gates of the school, he would report back to the Parish Council.
The members of the parish Community Speed Watch team are all volunteers, and anyone wishing to join them is asked to visit the Devon and Cornwall Police website – https://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/wsi/watch-schemes-initiatives/speedwatch/community-speedwatch/ – for further details.
