Parish (and Cornwall County) Council elections due next May
ALL members of Morval Parish Council will have to seek re-election next May if they want to continue serving the parish.
Local elections are due to take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
The election process starts with the publication of ‘Notice of Election’ on Friday, March 14, and nominations can be received up to 4.00 pm on Wednesday, April 2, with Cornwall Council publishing the list of those wishing to stand for election on the following day, Thursday, April 3.
After that date there are a number of other important timescales (all of which are recorded on https://cornwall.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8b22106188babc3bc72a50b07&id=96a04c0c0d&e=3420d0621c).
Some of the most important include the following:
Friday, April 11 – The last date to register to vote;
Monday, April 14 – Receipt of Postal Vote applications, and…
Wednesday, April 23 – Publication of Notice of Poll (There might not be a need for an election, depending on how many people have expressed an interest to stand)
Thursday, May 1, will also be the day on which the public elect their Cornwall County Councillors – in Morval’s case for the Looe East and Deviock ward, currently served by Looe’s Armand Toms (Independent).
Guidance on how to stand as a councillor can be found here: https://cornwall.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8b22106188babc3bc72a50b07&id=96a04c0c0d&e=3420d0621c.
Cornwall Council will also be holding a ‘Councillor Fair’ on Saturday, January 18, for anyone interested in standing as a Cornwall councillor or as a parish councillor.
The ‘fair’ will take place at New County Hall in Truro from 9.00 am until 4.00 pm and will include presentations about what it’s like to be a councillor, and it will also provide opportunities to ask questions.
You’ll find full details about the ‘fair’ and how to book a place on the ‘Be a Councillor’ page – https://cornwall.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8b22106188babc3bc72a50b07&id=27fa075dc4&e=3420d0621c – on Cornwall Council’s website.
