Council support for Listed Building alterations
AN APPLICATION for alterations to the Old Farmhouse, a Listed Building, at Wringworthy, Morval, is being supported by Morval Parish Council.
Cllr Ben Pengelly, usually the council’s lead on planning matters, had to declare an interest and left the meeting while the topic was discussed.
His wife, Sam, the parish council clerk, was also willing to excuse herself from the chamber but council vice-chairman John Collings felt that her absence was not necessary.
“She is not a councillor and does not have a say or a vote, so I do not see why she has to declare an interest,” he said.
“In effect, she is employee of the council, not a councillor who makes decisions.”
Cllr John Kitson presented the case in Cllr Pengelly’s absence and said he would be amazed if anyone had any objections. He was correct. The council unanimously supported the planning application, although as ever in planning matters, the final decisions rests with Cornwall Council.
At next month’s council meeting it could be Cllr Kitson who has to declare an interest.
Notified on Cornwall Council’s planning web portal is an application (No. PA23/09527) for an extension to the decking area at The Cornish Treehouse, Morval, and the installation of a hot tub.
